LIVE WELLNESS AT HOME
The elder care industry in Raleigh is booming – Join us now! Build a career through fulfilling work with a flexible schedule while discovering your passion. It doesn’t get any better than finding a job that is not only high in demand, but provides a great sense of purpose with a variety of career-growth opportunities.
If you have a passion for taking care of others and/or have past experience doing so for a loved one, the senior care field presents a range of employment prospects as the fastest growing sector in the healthcare industry. The demand for caregivers is high and will only continue to grow as the Baby Boomer generation ages. The number of Americans 65 and older is expected to reach 70 million while the number of caregivers per older adult is dwindling.
Why Work in Elder Care in Raleigh?
The Triangle area of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill in North Carolina is a great location to start and continue a career in elder care. The median age of the population has increased every year since 2010 as 10,000 Baby Boomers turn 65 years old every day. And, with the number of caregivers per adult decreasing every year, there’s no shortage of job opportunities.
Raleigh has also been named one of the best affordable places to live for a number of years, whether renting or buying property.
Flexibility and Career Development
Working for a home care agency can provide a great deal of flexibility. Whether you are bored working the same schedule of hours every day or want an additional job, the better care agencies will work with you to find client visits to fit your needs. They will make your schedule based on your priorities such as school, parenting obligations, or another job.
There’s also the option of working as few or as many hours as you’d like. Most assisted living or care facilities require a set schedule for days and nights. Additionally, the hours you are scheduled as an in-home caregiver are with one client where you are able to give them your undivided attention. With one-on-one interaction, you have the opportunity to truly learn about your client – their likes/dislikes and how they want things done.
You’ll get to meet all kinds of people from different walks of life. Caregivers become like family not only to the client, but to their loved ones as well. Additionally, we like to think of our staff as a family and our caregivers are an integral part of that!
Caregiving can be a fulfilling and rewarding career, no matter what other jobs you have held or currently hold. Caregivers note they feel a sense of satisfaction that their client/family is being taken care of and pride in knowing they helped someone in a stressful situation.
Some decide to use caregiving as a stepping stone to other positions in healthcare – nursing, staff coordinators, counselors, health administrators, and more.
Both of our current staff coordinators were previously caregivers for our agency (and on occasion, still are!). The skills they developed through the experience were big contributing factors as candidates for their current position: Attention to detail, interpersonal skills, time management, and stamina.
The flexibility of caregiving hours can make pursuing your academic interests like nursing, for example, a very realistic possibility. We have two full-time RNs on staff happy to answer any questions you might have regarding a nursing career!
The Raleigh area hosts several options to pursue an education in the nursing field and in elder care.
