  1. Installing handrails and grab bars in the proper places (such as grab bars in the shower/bathroom)
  2. Reviewing all medications with doctor or pharmacist
  3. Remove all clutter by organizing the senior's daily living space
  4. Make electronics and communications devices easy to access and use
  5. Drink enough water
  6. Incorporate balance exercises into their daily routine
  7. Inspect the home from the perspective of the elderly to find any additional hazards

  1. More than one in three seniors aged 65 and older fall each year in the United States
  2. Falls in older adults are the leading cause of both fatal and non-fatal injuries, including 95% of hip fractures
  3. An older adult dies from a fall every twenty minutes
  1. Stay calm
  2. Take a few deep breaths
  3. Wait a few moments to get over the shock of falling
  4. Stay still to allow your body and blood pressure to adjust
  5. Don't get up too quickly
  6. When ready, roll onto your side
  7. Slowly get up on your hands and knees
  8. Crawl to a sturdy chair
